Dog gets a new home after living 2,381 days in the shelter

"I'm here to bring Higgins home."

Higgins was a long-time resident of Humane of Preble County, but CEO Leslie Renner refused to give up taking him out of there. And the dog will not give up either.

Higgins originally came to the shelter as a pup and was adopted right away. But he eventually found his way back to the shelter when someone came in with a “stray,” and it was him. And no one came looking for him.

The dog was now a year old, and people kept passing over him for younger puppies. He also kept a worried look on his face that some people may have found intimidating. Higgins was constantly ignored.

But after 2,381 days at the shelter, in came Brendon Reed who said, “I’m here to take Higgins home.” They couldn’t believe it.

The 22-year-old man just got his first home and wanted a companion. When he saw Higgins’ photo and heard his story, he had to have him.

Higgins now sleeps on a couch and plays in his very own backyard after six-and-a-half long years. He’s living life like every other beloved pet.

Higgins is so happy to finally have a home and a dad who loves him. The wait is over.
